    Alustar permanent magnetic chuck

The Alustar permanent chuck is used during turning and grinding of ring-shaped workpieces. The chuck excels due to its low weight resulting from the aluminium design of the body. It can cope with a larger weight range of machined components. With this chuck, you have the possibility to machine the front, inner and outer diameter of the workpiece in one operation. The possibility of continuous control of the holding force facilitates centring.

      Product description

      Detailed description:

The Alustar permanent magnetic circular chuck is a lightweight version of the Neostar chuck. The aluminium body reduces its weight significantly thereby allowing clamping of workpieces with larger weights than the basic Neostar version. The great advantage of the chuck is the patented switch mechanism, which makes it possible to adjust the holding force variably and fix the adjusted holding force in any position Thanks to the switching mechanism, you can switch the chuck to 10 to 20 % power to centre the workpiece easily, then switch to 100 % and proceed with safe operation. The long life span of the permanent magnetic chuck is ensured by the solid single piece top plate. Possibility to regrind by up to 5 mm. It is possible to deliver this chuck with a through-hole by request.

Alustar Lightweight Circular Chuck for Efficient Turning and Grinding

The Alustar permanent magnetic circular chuck is an ideal solution for clamping and machining rotating components on lathes or cylindrical grinders. Its greatest advantage is its unique aluminum body, which dramatically reduces the overall weight of the chuck compared to conventional all-steel models. Thanks to this low self-weight, the Alustar minimally loads the machine tool spindle, reduces inertial forces during startup and shutdown, and thus significantly saves wear on the bearings and drives of your equipment. It is a perfect choice for operations where emphasis is placed on machining dynamics and saving mechanical wear on machines.

Maximum clamping force of neodyme magnets with radial polarity

Despite its low weight, Alustar makes no compromises in terms of performance. It is equipped with extra-strong neodymium magnets arranged in a radial (spoke-like) polarity. This geometry concentrates the magnetic force evenly around the entire circumference and towards the center, ensuring an extremely firm clamping of rings, bearings, flanges, and tubes. Because the magnet holds the workpiece over its entire surface and without radial pressure, no mechanical deformations or pressure marks occur on thin-walled materials, which is crucial for achieving perfect roundness and precision.

Continuous power control and high resistance to centrifugal forces

The design of the Alustar chuck from Czech manufacturer Walmag is engineered for maximum operator comfort and safety. Using a control key, the clamping force can be smoothly regulated, allowing the operator to easily and precisely center the workpiece before its final clamping at full power. The compact, robust, and 100% waterproof design reliably withstands the effects of cooling emulsions and high centrifugal forces during rapid spindle rotations. With the Alustar model, you gain a stable and economical helper that will speed up your handling times and elevate the quality of rotary machining to a higher level.

      Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are your products made in the Czech Republic? Are your products made in the Czech Republic?

Yes, the entire process – from in-house development through design, production, to final assembly and testing – takes place directly in our plant in Kroměříž. This gives us full control over quality and allows us to flexibly tailor products to specific customer requirements.

What is the difference between permanent, electromagnetic, and electro-permanent systems? What is the difference between permanent, electromagnetic, and electro-permanent systems?

Permanent Magnets: Operate without electricity, activated mechanically by a lever. They are safe, mobile, and maintenance-free.
Electromagnets: Generate a magnetic field using coils powered by mains electricity. They possess immense strength, can clamp uneven surfaces, and allow force regulation, but require a constant power supply and backup sources.
Electro-permanent Magnets: Combine the advantages of both systems. They only require electric current for a fraction of a second for activation (magnetization) and deactivation. During operation itself, they do not need current, making them extremely safe even in the event of a power outage and preventing overheating.

Can your lifting magnets also be used for handling materials at high temperatures? Can your lifting magnets also be used for handling materials at high temperatures?

Conventional permanent magnets lose their strength at temperatures above 80 °C. However, for operations with higher temperatures, we offer special series (e.g. HOT lifting magnets) that can safely handle materials with temperatures up to 180 °C.

Why is it necessary to use a demagnetizer after machining? Why is it necessary to use a demagnetizer after machining?

Ferromagnetic materials retain residual magnetism after being exposed to a magnetic field (e.g., when clamped onto a magnetic chuck). This causes metal chips and dust to stick to the workpiece, which can damage tools or complicate further processing (e.g., painting, welding). Demagnetizers reliably remove this residual magnetism.

Do you provide service and revisions for your products?Do you provide service and revisions for your products?

Yes, for all our technologies, including older BUX, Walker, and Pilana brand products, we provide complete warranty and post-warranty service, repairs, overhauls, and original spare parts. We also perform mandatory periodic certifications, inspections, and load capacity testing of lifting magnets.

Do you also offer staff training?Do you also offer staff training?

Yes. As part of the delivery of our magnetic applications and large systems, we provide professional operator training to ensure that working with magnets is as efficient and safe as possible.

Due to the higher weight of our products, we cooperate with specialized pallet and parcel carriers who ensure safe handling.

How is the safety of lifting magnets purchased from the e-shop guaranteed? How is the safety of lifting magnets purchased from the e-shop guaranteed?

All lifting magnets comply with the strict ČSN EN 13155 standard and operate with a safety factor of 3+. This means that in a pull-off test (the so-called Air Gap test, which simulates a real air gap/dirt in operation), the magnet can lift more than three times its declared maximum load capacity.
